For this task we had to find 3 interesting facts about the country we have chosen to visit. The rules are is that we weren't allowed to have a fact that has been on the world map, and we had to write the fact in our own words.
Fact 1: England has the largest population size in the United Kingdom.
Fact 2: There are only 34 kilometres or 21 miles between England and France.
Fact 3: In 1908, 1948, and 2012 the Summer Olympic Games were held in London.

I am excited to see that you have posted three interesting facts about England. I had the chance to live in England a few years ago and my friends and I would sometimes take the underground train from England to France. The Chunnel train travels underneath the English channel (a huge body of water) and takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes to get from one country to the other. It's a really fun trip!
Apparently the government of New Zealand is thinking about making a similar train for the Auckland area. They will build the train tunnel underneath the harbour in Auckland so that trains and cars can travel from the north shore of Auckland into the city centre. Would you like to ride on a train that travels underneath the water?

ReplyDeleteGreat fact hunting! It's true that England and France are actually quite close. Could you imagine if New Zealand and Australia were that close? They're so close, that some people have even swum the channel before, the first person to swim across was in 1875!
I had never known that London had hosted the Olympics 3 times, that's really interesting! I remember watching the 2012 games though. A friend of mine called Mike Dawson was competing in the white water kayaking, and he said it was an amazing experience! Did you watch the Olympics last year in Rio? What was your favourite sport to watch?
I hope that you'll join back in with the Summer Learning Journey soon. It would be great to read some more of your blogs about your journey through England. I hope you have been enjoying your holidays in the meantime :-)
