Summer Learning Journey - Week 1 Activity 2

For this task we had to find 3 interesting facts about the country we have chosen to visit. The rules are is that we weren't allowed to have a fact that has been on the world map, and we had to write the fact in our own words.
Fact 1: England has the largest population size in the United Kingdom.
Fact 2: There are only 34 kilometres or 21 miles between England and France.
Fact 3: In 1908, 1948, and 2012 the Summer Olympic Games were held in London.

Holiday Reading Challenge - Setting

While doing the holiday reading challenge I chose this book called Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The cover caught my attention, but the blurb at the back made me want to read it even more. My first task for the Holiday Reading Challenge was the setting. The first setting is at 4 Privet Drive where the Dursleys' live. Then we had to write the title, Author, What type of book it was and a line from the book describing the setting.

For this activity I had to choose a country out of Canada, England, Germany, Chile, Mexico, United Arab Emirates, Japan, Australia, Malaysia and South Africa. This country I chose England.
Reason 1: I have never been to England and would like to know more about the fascinating country.
Reason 2: There are many different interesting landmarks that have taken a very important part in history.

LS1 Geometry Art

This week and last, Mr Ogilvie's groups did Geometry art. First we started with a white A3 sheet of paper with perspective lines. We then used google to search for images of 3d shapes. I drew a hexagon prism, pentagon prism, cone, square based pyramid, cylinder, cube, cuboid, and a triangle prism. Once we drew the shapes in pencil, we began to color the background using pastels. I chose the colors Blue and Yellow. After colouring the backgrounds we used a ruler to measure the floor. Then we used the checkered board patterns for the floor. We then coloured it in white and black. After that we used a vivid to go around edges of each shape. Finally, we used one more pastel to color our shapes. I had lots of fun doing this project during the past 2 weeks.

This is my blog comment on Chavda's Blog. I think she drew a great annotated drawing of a Saffron Finch.

Fokker D. XXI - Information Report

Last week for writing we wrote a plan about the aircraft or bird we picked. This week's writing task is to now use that plan to write an information report, narrative or an explanation. My main points in my information report was the creator/manufacturer, the parts of the aircraft and when it was built. The easiest main point was the parts of the plane because I did another task talking about the parts of a plane. For this task I used my researching skills, and skimming and scanning skills to look for key information on websites.

Connections DLO

L.I: To make connections with prior knowledge, L.I: to gather information across texts to form an opinion. This week's task was a very simple. This week we talked about making connections about the 4 aviators we learnt about this term and a new one we picked. The aviator I chose was Amy Johnson. She had a lot of connections with all the aviators, but mostly with Jean Batten. I enjoyed learning about a new aviator. Our Must Do was to create a DLO presenting basic information about the aviator we chose and the connections with the aviators we knew about.

Transum - Roman Numerals

Today for my Other on the must do task list, I played roman numerals. The aim of this game if to find out which centurian does not get a shield. By finding out, you need to put the correct shield on the correct centurian. I enjoyed practicing my Roman Numerals. Here is the website if you are interested.

Transum - Addle

Today for my can dos I played Addle. Addle is a game on transum where you have to use the numbers from 1 to 14 and add them up to the right number.  This task requires, basic facts skills from 1 - 40. I enjoyed playing this game as it is frustrating at the same time. If you wish to play the site is here.

Blog Commenting

Travel Measurements

This week we did a similar task from the last week. We used Google Maps to do this task. We had to measure places from the world and measure how many kilometres, metres, centimeters, and millimetres. We then used our thumb rulers to see how many thumbs by width and length there are against these long distances. I traveled the Australian, Asian, European, South Ameria and North America. I enjoyed exploring the world using google maps.
