Why is this night different from all the other nights - Retell

Retell
(in 25 words or less)

The trick with retelling a story is keeping it to the main points.  In this case you only have 25 words so make them count! Post your recount onto your blog with a comment that tells you:
- Title - Why is this night different from all the other nights?
- Author - Lemony Snicket
- Type of Book - Mystery, Fiction

- Retell - Lemony and his associates stop their enemy from making other people guilty for crimes they didn’t commit. They use a paper statue to trick Hangfire.

Rewrite the Ending

Rewrite the Ending

If you could rewrite the ending of the story what would happen?  Write a paragraph explaining what you think should have happened.
Post it onto your blog with the following information.
- Title - Why is this night different from all the other nights?
- Author - Lemony Snicket
- Type of Book - Fiction - Mystery
My ending to the story is that Lemony Snicket and his associates tricked Hangfire (their enemy) and reported him to the authorities. There he went to jail and would never bother Stain’d by the sea again. While they were there they also cleared Theodora’s name and saved Lemony’s sister and everyone else Hangfire tricked.
- Why your ending is better
My ending is better because not only is it a happy ending but Stain’d by the sea is saved and will be in no more trouble. Also Lemony and his friends rescued other friends that Hangfire tricked.

Making Butter

Yesterday we made butter out of double cream. We put double cream into a jar and shook it until yellow lumps were formed. Then we spread the butter on bread and enjoyed it. I learnt a new word called 'Emulsion'. Emulsion is when the fat particles and the water or liquid is separated. I had lots of fun doing this experiment.

Basic Facts on Prototech

Today I played Prototech. These are my results. I found the Addition to 20, Subtraction to 20, division and multiplication basic facts easy. I found the 100 A bit tricky, but only got one question wrong overall. There were many different strategies I used.

Pets in LS1

Dogs has the most amount of people. Cats and Other have the same amount of people. Dogs has 18 more than cats and other. Cats and other have 18 less than Dogs

Xtra Math results

These are my results on Xtra Math. I found most of the questions easy and some of them hard because of the time. I need to improve on my basic facts and getting the answers right in time. I got a few questions wrong like 19 - 7. There were no patterns between what I got right and what I got wrong.

Making Elephant Toothpaste

Making Elephant Toothpaste

On Wednesday afternoon LS1 and Room 5 did an experiment called ‘Elephant Toothpaste’. Two ladies from Edgewater College came and instructed us through the experiment. It was very exciting as we walked to the field. We saw a table with chemicals and a tall cylinder. The two ladies were wearing a large white coat and clear safety glasses. They both introduced themselves and started talking about our experiment. She talked about Chemical reactions, that can’t be reversed and Physical reactions that can be reversed. We had to find out whether the ‘Elephant Toothpaste’ would be reversible or non reversible. She called two volunteers Viva, and Troy. The lady put 100 milliliters of Hydrogen Peroxide in the cylinder. Then Viva put a large squirt of detergent in with the Hydrogen Peroxide. Then we all counted from 5 to 1 as Troy put one teaspoon of Potassium Iodide in the mixture. The colour changed into a dark orange. On the top was foam that raised slowly to the top and came out of the sides of the cylinder. It made a huge pile of foam surrounding the cylinder. We were all amazed as our eyes stared at the reaction. We discussed about if it was a chemical reaction or a physical reaction. We all agreed that it was a chemical reaction that couldn’t be reversed. We were going to try it again with a plastic bottle. The lady again asked for another two volunteers, Vance and Alice. Again, the lady poured the same measurement of Hydrogen Peroxide then Vance added the detergent. We counted down from 5 as Alice added the Potassium Iodide. The colour was a normal orange and the foam went out of the bottle faster than the cylinder. It shot out of the bottle then went back down making a pile of foam around the bottle. We were more amazed than doing the experiment in the cylinder. When we were sent back we all talked about the elephant toothpaste. We all had an entertaining time during the experiment.

Cultures of LS1 Interpritation

Today In LS1 we did another Statistical Investigation. This time we investigated on Cultures in LS1. My partner Savelina and I made a pie chart. We found other different cultures that we never knew about our classmates and LS1.

The 'Other' section has the most amount of people.
Maori has the least amount of people.
New Zealand has one more than Cook Island
Cook Island is one less than New Zealand

Differences & Similarities between Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein

Art Self Portrait Reflection

Reflecting on my Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein themed portrait

Your Photograph goes here

DSC09651.JPG

1. Are you pleased with your Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein themed portrait? why / why not?
I am very pleased with my artwork because it suits with the pop art that Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein did.

2. What did you find easy when you created your Pop Art portrait?
The dying session was like colouring in a colouring book and also the block parts in the Roy Lichtenstein artwork

3. What part did you find tricky when you were creating your portrait? -think about tracing round your face, outlining your face using a black marker pen, dabbing areas using the dye, dying the background, dotting your areas, colouring block areas and lettering.

I found the tracing around my face part hard and also dotting my face and skin during the Roy Lichtenstein session.

4. Who / What helped you when you were creating your Pop Art portrait?
People who had already finished doing their Art potrait helped me understand the instructions more so that my art portrait would be a success.

5. What would you do differently next time? Think about: tracing around your face, features on your face, dabbing the dye colours, colour choice, photograph, time management skills, dotting your paper, colouring in block areas, lettering.
Trying more lighter and different colours. Also colouring my block letters inside the lines.

6. What frustrated you when you created your Andy Warhol  and Roy Lichtenstein themed art work?
Using the earbuds doing the Andy Warhol Self portrait was a little frustrating. Using another piece of lined paper in front of our art was a little frustrating to see and getting the dots lined next to each other.

Indoor vs Outside Games

Today in LS1 we did a statistical investigation on our data squares. My partner, Savelina and I have counting the Indoor and Outside games on our data squares. Once we had gathered all the data, we made a bar graph to show how many indoor games and outside games people like in LS1.

Savelina and I counted 44 people in our class
Indoor games had the most amount of people
Outside Games had the least amount of people
Indoor games had 42 people
Outside Games had 2 people
Indoor games had 40 more people than Outside Games
Outside games had 40 less people than Indoor Games

My Easter Holiday Experience

My Easter Holidays
On Good Friday, I slept in because I had nothing to do on that day. My sister crept into the room and pulled the blanket off my feet. It felt so cold, so I tried to pull it back but instead,  my sister screamed, “Breakfast is ready!”. I moaned and groaned, but I finally opened my eyes. My sister opened the curtains, and the sun shone all over the room. My eyes were sore, and I was still tired. I brushed my teeth and washed my face. I felt a little better, but still tired. As I got closer to the kitchen I could smell pancakes, butter and of course maple syrup. My cousin was frying the last few scoops of the pancake mixture. On the table I could see stacked pancakes with maple syrup running down the sides and melted butter on the top. I couldn’t stop looking at it so I just rolled up the top pancake and took a bite. It was very delicious. My mouth was full I took one more small bite. My cousin told me off for eating when standing up. I ate another pancake and went to the lounge. I turned on the T.V watching the news that wasn’t very entertaining. Suddenly, I got very bored and decided to read a book. The book I was reading was ‘Why is this night different from all the other nights?’. It was written by one of my favourite authors, Lemony Snicket. As I read the last few pages of my book I had fallen asleep with the book in my hands. My mum woke me up and told me to jump in the car. We locked all the doors and windows and drove off to my Aunt’s house. When we arrived could already smell the barbecue and I could hear children laughing. I knew that it was my little cousins. We all played games and played with their pet dog. Then my Uncle and another cousin of mine surprised our whole family and also frightened them. We all welcomed him, my Aunty and my cousin to the barbecue. We ate and ate and had dessert later. The adults talked inside the lounge. The kids were in the garage playing games with others. The adults turned on some music and we all had a fun time. I had a awesome time with my family. I’d love to do another family barbecue again.
