Prototec

Today for my can do I played Prototec. The groups I played were 1000, Addition to 20, Subtraction to 20 and 2,3,5  and 10 multiplication and division facts. I think I could do another stage because These equations are fairly easy. 99% score out of all questions.

Maths Word Problems - Strategy Place Mat Two

L.I: To comprehend word problems, L.I; To choose the "best" strategy to solve the problem. This week for Maths, Mr Ogilvie's groups had to solve 2 problems from the given worksheets. We had to use the best strategy to solve the problem. We used the strategy place mat to show how we solved the equations. These questions were very hard, but I think I could do more questions like these.

Sentence Structure - Narrative Editing

L.I: to use a variety of simple, compound, and complex sentences. S.C: I can use a minimum of five simple sentences, 3 compound and 4 complex sentences. This week for Writing, we had to edit our narrative into simple, compound, and complex sentences. For our session we revised what the sentences meant. Then for our Must Do we had to edit our narrative from last week and highlight them to show what they are. The yellow represents the simple, the green compound, and the purple is for complex sentences. I think next time I could write more complex sentences than compound.

Emoticon Story - Maria

L.I: to infer information about characters in a text. This week for Reading, Mr Wong's groups worked on the story, The Wonders of Flight. In our group we had to track down the feelings, of a character in the story. Then we went off and tracked down the feelings of another character in the text. In our Must Do we had to choose a character and use our prior knowledge and clues from the text to figure out the feelings of that specific character.

Flight - Animal Migration

L.I: How technology expands human development, L.I: How society and enviroments impact on and are influenced by technology past, present and future. Today for Inquiry, Mr Ogilvie's groups focused on Animal Migration. First we got into groups of 3 and record all the animals we think and know that migrate or have migrated. Then we went off on our own and did some research about a animal that we picked. As an example, Mr Ogilvie showed us what we needed to do on the species Godwits. My animal was a Barn Swallow. I found a lot of interesting facts about their Migration.

Blog Commenting

This week Mr Wong added another column to the task list called Blog Commenting. This week I blog commented on Savelina's, Angela's and Mele's blog. I found very interesting work on these blogs. Most of them had mistakes in their blurb. I think I could start blog commenting on people outside my class.

Transum - Addle

Today during Maths I played the can do Addle. The point of the game is to use all the numbers on the blue part of the mat to equal the numbers on the yellow part of the mat.  This took me 185 seconds to complete. During this game I got a bit frustrated but I got there.

Inferring - Mixed Questions

This week for Reading Mr Wong's groups were focusing on Inferring. We had to do a worksheet to practice our skills. I learnt that you had to use our prior knowledge and clues to figure out a new idea in the text. The screenshots below tell you about my practice worksheet for our class tests coming up in week 3 and 4. This worksheet was recommended by my reading teacher, Mr Wong. For this activity we had to use the phrase "I already know that" and "My clue from the text is.." for our answers. This activity had some hard bits, but also some manageable. I hope that this will help with my Reading tests.

Migration 2 - Flight

L.I: How technology expands human development, L.I: How society and environments impact on and are influenced by technology past, present and future. This week for our Inquiry topic Migration, we had to do another slide called Flight. We got to pick our groups this time. We had to do another poster about Push Factors and Pull Factors. I found the facts very interesting.

Migration

L.I: How technology expands human development, L.I: How society and environments impact on are influenced by technology past, present and future. This term for Inquiry our topic is Migration. We were first separated into 2 groups to work with either Mr Ogilvie or Mr Wong.  We will eventually switch groups during the term. For Mr Ogilvie's group we worked on describing what we saw in a picture, and talking about the definition of Migration and what types there are. I found a lot of interesting facts while researching about it.

Strategy Place Mat - Word Problems

L.I: To comprehend word problems, L.I: To choose the "best" strategy to solve the problem. This week for Maths, Mr Ogilvie's group had to work on solving word problems. We first looked at a couple of examples before we go off to do our must do. First we he gave us a word problem we had to first solve it in our head, then write our strategy down. It was surprising to see most people writing down the algorithm strategy. We then had to think of what the problem was asking us to do. We worked on multiplication, division, subtraction and addition. We worked on many strategies including ones we didn't focus on the previous term. I think I could do better next time and a=maybe have a new "best strategy" for equations like this.

A Long Way Down - Editing into Paragraphs

L.I: to write narrative paragraphs using Topic sentence, Details, Concluding sentence. Today for Writing Mr Wong's groups worked with Ms McClain instead. My group Te Ika a Maui, worked on narrative paragraphs. We had to rewrite our story from W9 T3 into paragraphs using a topic sentence, details and concluding sentence. Before we edited we had to take a screenshot, then after we edited our writing.

Inferring Worksheet

L.I: to learn what inferring is
For our Must Do we had to complete the worksheet given. For our worksheet we had to infer about who the character might be, what kind of person the character is, how the character is feeling at the moment and where and when the situation is. There were 3 stories on the sheet. I had to use the clues and prior knowledge to get my answers. It was fun learning about inferring.

Studyladder - Fractions

Today for Can Dos I played Studyladder. I played 2 activities: Representing Fractions and Placing Fractions on a number line. I got a 10 out of 10 score for both activities. I think these questions were considerably easy. I think I should work on harder activities.
